Sax Music Book
What Music Theory for violin book(s) would you recommend for someone that?

has already been playing other instruments. I play Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, and berry. I am now playing the violin and what to know if there is a perticular book(s) that is better. Also, I would like to know if there is a book that also has a teachers manual. I'm homeschooled and I would like to be able to teach myself string theory. I have been playing music for 12 years.
Sorry about the spelling mistake.

I do have dvd's and practice lesson book and they have worked very well. I will be taking private lessons after the New Year's.

I'm just looking for a good music theory book for strings, especially the violin.

I worry that you need better instruction. For example, isn't anyone telling you that the abbreviation for that biggest sax you play is "bari" not "berry"?

If you are teaching yourself violin, you need to be aware that hand and finger position is rather crucial--and not just to your development as a musician. If you don't learn the proper way to hold the instrument, to bend your wrists, and to place your fingers, you risk repetitive motion injuries. A good friend--self-taught guitarist--last summer had to have carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists. Please get a dozen or so lessons from an expert teacher and reduce that likelihood for yourself!

As for books--I find dozens of good, roughly equivalent ones on the market. I recommend shopping on ebay or at half-price used book stores--you also could get cds and dvds, and there are web sites and discussion groups online. If you buy a cheap tutorial and it doesn't work for you, you've not lost much money--get another, and put the first one aside to try again later, perhaps you'll "grow into it".
