Help? I'm thinking of buying my friend a guitar?
Unfortunately, I have no idea what I'm suppoused to look for. I heard Fender is a good brand but they're waaaay out of my budget. He plays base [or is it spelled bass?] and I really don't want to spend any more than 200 or 250. If anyone can give me any suggestions that would be great. I'm planning on going to my local Guitar Center, so you might want to try their website. These are the ones I picked out, so if you could look over them too. Again, I have NO IDEA what I'm doing, so I could really, really use your help. Here are the ones I looked at:
Yamaha RBX170 Bass
Squier by Fender Affinity Series J Bass
Ibanez GSR100EX Soundgear Bass Guitar
Dean Playmate Edge 10a Electric Bass with Active Electronics
Squier by Fender Affinity Series Bronco Bass Guitar
Dean Edge 09 4-string Electric Bass Guitar
dean zone xm bass guitar

I would purchase the Ibanez GSR 200 4-string bass. You mentioned a 100-200 dollar range. I would spend the 200.00 and be happy knowing you bought something good. This bass will sound good for a beginner through someone playing in a band each night on stage. It has a Solid Wood body, with a maple neck. This is a stronger piece of wood. If someone is "careless" with string changes this will help keep the neck from warping. The built in equilizer will give you a variety of sounds without using pedals. It will give you an empty holllow sound for apt. practice on an amp and deep rumble for stage. The frets are medium in size so this means you won't get a lot of vibration or muting from thicker frets. Not that it matters but your fret markings are pearl as well and won't discolor. It is 199.99 This guitar is a solid buy. You can't beat this deal for an Ibanez. I would consider a "gig" bag so the frets and strings don't tarnish and ruin the quality of the sound. Plus you avoid changing strings often.
P.S. You can usually talk them into giving you a Gig Bag
